Thank you:  Dear Faith CRC, Roseland Christian Ministries would like to thank you for donating wonderful toys and jewelry to the homeless women and children of our Interim Housing program, “The Strong Tower”.  Your gift was a true blessing.  Thank you so much for gifting us with your time and resources. In John 12:8 Jesus said, “You will always have the poor among you…”  That is certainly true and while some interpret “the poor” to mean poor in spirit, our experiences here at Strong Tower have taught us that even when a person is poor in spirit, it affects them in ways that cause physical, mental and eventually financial poverty.  The thought can be quite depressing.  That is, until we remember Ministry Partners like you; good people who lift our client’s spirits and give them a new appreciation of themselves.  When our clients are happy, it makes our work so much easier.  When the mothers are feeling good about themselves, they are more loving and patient with their children.  Thank you again for caring about us and for us.  Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.   Sincerely, Rev. Elena H. C, Director, Interim Housing Program.

Love In the Name of Christ of Tinley Park is a newly formed non-profit organization that is dedicated to mobilizing our local Christian churches to help people in need.  Love INC is now accepting applications for an experienced professional to fill the part-time position of Executive Director.  Applicants must be mature Christians whose lives are dedicated to God’s service and to the ministry of unifying the Body of Christ. A job description and additional information is posted outside the Fellowship Hall.  Resumes must be received by Feb. 20.  For history, mission and values, go to LoveINC.org

Bethany Baby Bottles:  Remember to put your spare change in them and return them next Sunday.

Iron Sharpens Iron:  Orland Park CRC is hosting an “Iron Sharpens Iron – National Men’s Equipping Conference” on Sat., Feb. 25.  This is a first class, one-day conference that is designed for men (age 13 and older).  The conference will be held at Orland Park Church, 7500 W. Sycamore Drive, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  A group of men from Faith Church is planning to go.  Registration is reduced for a group of 10 or more.  Sign up on the list in table in the narthex if you’d like to attend.  Contact Fred H with questions.  Go to www.IronSharpensIron.net or see the poster by the sign-up sheet for speakers and more details.

OUR CHURCH FAMILY

Erv E passed away Wednesday night.  (Erv was the step father of Bev H). Arrangements are pending at Colonial.  Remember Lorraine, and Erv’s and Lorraine’s families.

John A was in Palos Hospital this week with pancreatitis, but was released on Friday.  Pray for John and Joan through this time.  Ask for patience, strength, relief from pain, and some remedy against recurrence.

CONGREGATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Journey of Joy:  Thank you to all who served with Journey of Joy.  Thanks for your prayers and attention to all the details.  Thanks for using your gifts. Many people started early and worked late.  Many prepared things well before the event. Thanks too for the positive attitudes that were displayed. We can continue to pray for JOJ’s impact on people.  There were 823 attendees on Saturday, and 1091 on Sunday, for a total of 1914.  (Yes, that is significantly more than last year, which saw huge attendance).  For much of the time, there was a 90 minute wait.  We saw a hunger in many people, and a deep appreciation for this clear reminder of the story of Christ taking our flesh.  Some people had never heard the story!

Journey of Joy Receipts: Please submit your expense receipts to Carla W by the end of the year.

Giving Tree:  Roseland Christian Ministries would like us to give gifts to the children in the shelter a little differently this year.  Their new program is called HOPE (Help Our Parents Excel).  They are going to have a "Christmas store" where mothers living at the shelter can buy gifts for their own children for a small amount ($1 - $2) and they are asking us to provide some of the gifts for the mothers to purchase.  The mothers have given us some general suggestions for their children, which are on tags on the Christmas Tree in the Fellowship Hall--or use your own imagination, keeping in mind that storage space is limited at the shelter.  Please return unwrapped gifts to the Christmas Tree by Sunday, December 18.    Call Debbie Vwith any questions.

High School Youth Group Christmas Party:  Sat., Dec. 17, 6 p.m., at Rachel’s grandpa’s place.  Remember a $5 grab bag.

Faith-Promise Pledge Forms:  These gold-colored forms are still available in the lobby if you forgot to make a pledge for our missions and outreach in 2012.  Place the form in the offering basket.

Are you hearing the call to serve in Honduras?  Now is the time to join our team which will be serving in Comayagua, Honduras March 30 - April 6, 2012.  Information forms are available in the Narthex. Deposits are due December 16. More information can be obtained from Bob & Cheryl D or John & Elaine H.

“The W’s have finally closed!  Some of you know what a challenge and struggle it has been for us these past 4 months with selling our house in Monee and purchasing our new home in Martin, MI.  THANK YOU for all the prayers, support, and words of encouragement as we made this transition!  It has been truly a blessing calling Faith Church our home and sharing in God's work with you the past 8 years.  We won't be strangers and will continue to pray for Faith Church as we ask you to pray for us as we find a new church home. Thank you again and God Bless you all.”  Dan & Christine W.

Schedule:  Everyone wearing a costume and registration staff should be at church by 12:00 noon and ready to go by 12:30.  We will have a group picture taken at 12:45 on the steps in front of the sanctuary and open with prayer.  Our first tour begins promptly at 1:00 p.m.

Following the final tour tonight, all the scenes are taken down and brought to the basement for storage and the vacuuming begins!  Volunteers are needed for this tear-down and clean-up.  Additional vacuums would speed up the process!

The Deacons are sponsoring a Senior Christmas luncheon on Saturday, December 10, at 12:00 noon.  If you didn't get an invitation, please contact any deacon for details.  The invitation either got lost in the mail, or we don’t have your birthday in the computer, or they thought you were 55, not 65!

The 2012 budget was approved at last Sunday's congregational meeting.

“Expecting” devotional booklets for Advent were made available last week to coincide with  Pastor Mark’s Advent series.  If you didn’t get one, they are available on the tables in the narthex.
